Associated Grocers’ Truck Driver, Johnny Holland takes home prestigious industry award
Associated Grocers, Inc. is pleased to highlight Mr. Johnny Holland Jr. in this quarter’s Employee Spotlight. Johnny earned the prestigious award of 2017 Driver of the Year by the Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA). The basis of nomination for the award is a long record of safe and courteous driving, an outstanding deed of heroism or highway courtesy, and/or an outstanding contribution to highway safety. Johnny exudes each of those requirements which is exemplified in his 29 years of perfect attendance and recognition for 20 years of safe driving and good citizenship on the road.
Growing up in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, driving trucks is something Johnny Holland Jr. always wanted to do. Johnny has been driving for Associated Grocers, Inc. for over 32 years, generating more than 1.5 million miles. Serving as a mentor to many of the drivers, Johnny is a thoughtful man, well respected and continues to hone his skills. Participating in AG’s in-house training and safety seminars offered throughout the year (the program’s goal is to prevent work related accidents and injuries) allows for consistent awareness.
For a significant part of his life, he’s been able to steadily excel in his skill, making this moment of recognition even more special. Of the honor, Johnny remarked, “I was surprised and excited. Out of all of the drivers, I had no idea that they would choose me.” He continued, “I’m very appreciative that my work as a professional truck driver was recognized. I thank God for this blessing.”
Johnny has earned trust and established meaningful relationships with retailers over the years, which is something he’s very proud of. Working among independent retailers within the grocery industry, relationships are especially important. “I know that what I do every day contributes to their success,” Johnny stated. “The way we do our job, is important to their business.”
Johnny’s boyhood dream has become a successful career that has taken him down many roads. In all of his humbleness, he says “I’m just being who I am. I look forward to continue doing whatever I can to help others and doing well at my job.”
