Associated Grocers, Inc. served as a sponsor for Teach for America’s New Teacher Training this summer. The training which is held from May 28-July 5 is to train new teachers (corps members) before they begin their two-year teaching commitment. The 34 teachers present three options of where they would like to be located and they are offered their top pick. This is a first since the pandemic. They are committing to serve in low-income schools across Greater Baton Rouge: East Baton Rouge, Donaldsonville, East Feliciana and Pointe Coupee.
“During New Teacher Training, corps members learn to create a safe and productive learning environment, ensure the curriculum meets students’ needs, and work alongside students, families, and school leaders,” stated Marie Mullen, Teach for America. “While learning these foundational teaching skills, our teachers work to close the opportunity gap by providing remediation and additional academic support to students in a local Baton Rouge school. Thank you, Associated Grocers, for sponsoring our new teachers to join Teach For America in Greater Baton Rouge and begin their important work to improve student outcomes in our community.”
Teachers received gift bags with some wish list items, as well as a few snack items, all from Our Family of Brands, Simply Done and Food Club.
Associated Grocers is proud to partner with Teach For America, as we welcome these educators to our community. We applaud them for stepping into their new roles, as they will become instrumental in helping shape, and guide students on their educational paths.
